Skyview Ranch is located in Nicholson, BC at the base of Mt. 7, one of Canada's best flying sites for Hang Gliding and Paragliding. The ranch is open to landing for pilots who are insured through membership with the Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association of Canada (HPAC) and have signed our waiver. The waiver must be signed each year and can be found here. https://waiver.smartwaiver.com/w/6uxgeixnfnnrrnmx8cxntj/web/
We ask that all pilots, passengers and groundcrew read and follow the site rules. https://skyviewran.ch/rules
You can check the current and historical weather conditions here.
The Pilot Parking Lot is at the north end of the ranch adjacent to Canyon Creek Rd with room for about 20 vehicles. It is fenced and a cattle guard is installed at the gate to provide protection from the cattle as they can cause damage. When the gate is open additional parking is available in the field but not recommended if the cattle are grazing. Parking is always at your own risk. There is an animal proof walk-through in the fence on the east side of the parking lot. Please don't climb over the fence or the gate. The fencing around the parking lot was made possible by a generous donation from The Alberta Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association.
There are several wind socks on the property including a large sock on a recycled hydro pole. Thanks to Lyle Jones for supplying the pole and Golden Installations for installing it. We recommend checking the locations of the wind socks before flying so you know where to look for them while setting up your approach and to avoid contacting them while flying.
There is a hydrant with potable water at the well located on the west side of the road south of the gap in the trees that line the road.
An outhouse was supplied and built by the organizers of the Willi XC Challenge located on the west side of the parking lot. Thanks to Randy Parkin and John McIsaac. Please use respect and keep it clean.
We are planning to build a shade hut at some point and with some luck and some help it could happen this summer.
We are open to other ideas to provide a welcoming and comfortable environment so if you have any ideas let us know.
